Why do Britain's busiest shops officially make no profit? Mr. Krabs owns a booming retail empire across the United Kingdom. His stores are packed, cash keeps pouring in, and at the end of the year, he clears 10 million pounds in pure profit. But a massive shadow is waiting at his door. The government wants to march in and snatch a heavy 25% business tax straight out of his register. That is 2.5 million pounds taken directly from his hands. But Mr. Krabs is clever. He knows that letting the government see your profits is a trap for naive business owners. So, Mr. Krabs does something completely bizarre. He takes a boat across a tiny strip of water to a small island called Jersey. He finds a completely empty office building, locks a single piece of paper inside a desk drawer, and calls it his new company. This empty room has no workers, no products, and no customers. But on paper, this empty room officially owns Mr. Krabs' name and his logo. Right before the government counts the money, that empty office building across the water sends Mr. Krabs' busy British shops a giant bill. It is a massive bill for exactly 10 million pounds, charging him just for using his own name. Mr. Krabs pays the fake bill immediately. He packs up all his UK profits and ships them across the water into that empty island room. When the taxman finally arrives at his British stores, Mr. Krabs opens his empty safes and shows them his books. Because he sent all his cash to the island, his shops officially make zero pounds in profit. His tax bill instantly drops to nothing. Meanwhile, his 10 million pounds sits entirely untouched and completely safe inside that quiet island room.
