Most people think Cannes Lions is all rosé, yachts, parties... but the people and companies who are actually seeing ROI from Cannes have an exact strategy and I'm gonna break it down for you. But why should you listen to me? I'm Natasha. I've been in the marketing and media industry for the past five years and I run growth and event marketing at an AdTech company, which means that I oversee our Cannes strategy. And now that Cannes has moved from this niche advertising industry event to something that's in the public eye because of influencers and celebrities attending more frequently, I wanna break down exactly and how you can make the most out of this event. First of all, Tip #1: You Don't Need a Badge. Most of the magic happens outside the Palais. First of all, you do not need a badge to attend Cannes. The badges can range from anywhere from 2 to 6,000, which is insane and you really only need one if you want to attend the award shows or any of the panels that are put on by officially Cannes. There are plenty of things, plenty of executives to talk and plenty of brands to talk to while you're on just the Croisette, not the Palais. And the Palais is where all the official Cannes programming is versus the Croisette is like the strip of all the brand activations and that's where a lot more panels, parties, activities are happening. Tip #2: The Cannes Dress Code. Think luxury south of France resort chic. Light linens, elevated basics, chic sneakers, designer bags, 'luxury' dresses, but please no mini-skirts. So it's a very tricky balance that you have to have. I've actually been planning my Cannes outfits since January of this year. You wanna have comfortable, a cute and stylish outfit that also beats the heat while also making you look professional and put together. It's a tricky balance, but you can definitely accomplish. BTW: Comment CANNES for the full guide! The tips that I'm going through are part of an official guide that I put together. So just comment CANNES below and I'll send them all to you. Now down to the strategy of actually getting your ROI. It's all about the pre-work that you do leading up to the event. Prospecting people that they're gonna reach out to. Knowing exactly who's going to be attending and the goals that they wanna get out of these people. So a few things you can do right now. 1. Find who is attending (LinkedIn, lists, speakers). Figure out who you're attending. You can do this by looking at past attendee lists that maybe you can find online. It's a little bit sketchy. You can also look on LinkedIn. If you just look up 'I'm attending Cannes Lions' or 'Cannes Lions', you can do some manual stalking to see who in your network is gonna be attending or if there are people you specifically wanna see if they've posted about them going to Cannes Lions. A lot of brands or agencies will also be a juror or officially speaking on a panel. So you can sort of poke around and just do some deep research. 2. Reach out to pre-book meetings at Cannes. So now you know who's attending and this is where outbound sales comes in very handy. And you can just guess their emails if you don't already have them. Make sure you also connect with them on LinkedIn. The goal here is simply to book a meeting at Cannes. A lot of the meetings that happen are a little bit more on the casual side because Cannes is really about just having that touch point for your relationship versus actually getting true business decisions done. Every single executive's calendar is booked back to back. So you need to make sure that you get slotted in their calendar before we actually get to Cannes. If Cannes is all about relationships, how do you actually get your ROI? A true ROI is getting the next step booked. What's the next step? Is it another meeting? Is it inviting them to another event? Is it getting them on a panel for something else? Whoever you're trying to meet with, make sure you know the goal and you get that goal decided in that meeting at Cannes. And you follow up with them for the next month, every single week. Most executives are taking vacation right after. So don't be afraid to give a few follow-ups because people are on summer vacation. And I have all of these tips and more in an official guide that I put together. So just comment CANNES below and I'll send them all to you.
