POV: You go to Google I/O to count how many times they say "AI" but AI replaced you

Guess how many times they said AI this year 👀👇I sat through the Google I/O keynote this morning (sadly remotely this time… this is a repost from years ago when sundar saw me counting how many times he said AI haha…) But this morning was Two hours. A dozen announcements. One very clear message. The “Google lost the AI race” might not be so true 🔥 For two years the narrative was: OpenAI invented the future, Anthropic perfected it, and Google was the slightly embarrassed dad jogging behind. Today Sundar walked on stage and quietly ended that chapter. I used to work at Google. I know how that company thinks. They do not move until they are ready to move completely (Which is arguably why they were so slow in the race, despite starting it all) Today was that day. Here’s what dropped: Gemini 3.5 Flash beats their own 3.1 Pro on coding, agentic, and multimodal benchmarks. 4x faster than every other frontier model. The cheap tier is now the smart tier 🧠 Gemini Spark books your flights, drafts your emails, and lives inside your Gmail full time. Not an assistant. A colleague who never sleeps and never asks for a raise 🤖 Antigravity 2.0 turns one prompt into a full Android app shipped straight to the Play Store. The most direct shot at Claude Code all year 📑 AI Mode in Search is already at 1 billion monthly users. The ten blue links have entered hospice. AI Ultra dropped from $250 to $200/month. New $100 tier. They are not just shipping product. They are repricing the entire category 💸 Here is what actually matters though. Google has 2.5 billion people already living inside Gmail, Search, Maps, Android, and YouTube 🌎. Today they pushed an agent into all of it. Not as a beta. As the default layer underneath products people open before they brush their teeth. The smartest model doesn’t always win. The one already embedded in your daily life wins… Google has always known this. Today they finally acted on it 🐆 The “Google lost the AI race” arc was a great story. Really compelling narrative.
