The company warns the technology is moving so quickly that we actually need to pause its development before AI can just build itself and humans before humans lose complete control over it. What it would look like is these AI systems making new versions of themselves without any human input. And then at that point, if they are running on their own, on a computer system or on someone's phone, they could maybe do some, you know, mechanisms that we are not ready for them to do yet. And the idea now is that humans are in charge of how these AI systems improve themselves. Humans get to decide what they want to do to make these algorithms and these models more sophisticated. So what Anthropic has described here is a process in which the AI gets better and better to the point where it improves itself. And they think that that is a little scary and something that the whole world should know about. Because if we know about it now, maybe as a society, we can decide to slow AI research down.
