I wanted to figure out how much heat actually gets put off by my gaming PC, so I did a little test. Door closed, PC under full gaming load, no ceiling fan and no AC running. After about an hour, the room temperature climbed up in additional 8 degrees. So, I installed the Media 6,000 BTU U-shaped window unit to see if I could actually keep up with the heat output. The design on this thing is pretty interesting because the window actually closes down onto the middle of the unit. And that keeps the loud compressor section outside, which should help reduce noise compared to the traditional window unit. Install was straightforward, mount the support brackets, set the unit in place, close the window and seal the side. Then I relaunch my game. The room temperature dropped down pretty quick and stayed stable while gaming. And what surprised me was the noise. Most window units are loud enough to hear through a headset, but since a compressor is outside, it is noticeably quieter. I'll tested the smart controls through the app which I could turn on the unit before even walking into the room. Even after running it overnight, I noticed the room didn't feel any colder. It just felt less humid. This handled the heat output for my gaming setup a lot better than I expected. expected.
