Do you know how much money you would need to be making to afford a Chevy Silverado? This is a 2025 Chevy Silverado 1500 RST. It has a starting price of $54,800 with a delivery fee of $2,195. And then manufacturer and dealer add-ons, $5,015. Total vehicle price $62,015. But then the dealership adds LoJack for $1,495, nitrogen for $199, wheel locks for $199, tinted glass for $699, GM floor liners for $399. The lift package, 22-inch wheels, 35-inch tires, leather, black out package, wrapped top is all $13,995. Total signature plus $16,986. Total dealer asking price $79,001. But for the Chevy Silverado 1500 RST, if you added an 8% sales tax, that would add another $6,320.08 in sales tax, which would bring the total price to $85,321.08. Now, let's say you want to finance that total amount financed was $0 down at a 9% interest rate for 72 months, which is a total of six years. Then your monthly car payment alone would be $1,537.96 for the Chevy Silverado. And over the course of those six years that you're financing, you would end up paying a total of $25,411.92 in interest. Now, of course, we can't just look at the monthly car payment, we have to look at all the other monthly expenses that go into the cost of owning a vehicle as well. For example, your car insurance, which would be about $157.50 a month on average. Your monthly gas costs would be about $245.00 a month and maintenance would be somewhere around $67.50 a month. If you divided that evenly across all the 72 months, then your monthly car payment would be $1,537.96 and you would end up paying a total of $25,411.92 in interest. Now, of course, we can't just look at the monthly car payment, we have to look at all the other monthly expenses that go into the cost of owning a vehicle as well. For example, your car insurance, which would be about $157.50 a month on average. Your monthly gas costs would be about $245.00 a month and maintenance would be somewhere around $67.50 a month. If you divided that evenly across all the 72 months, then your total monthly car cost would be $2,007.96 for this Chevy Silverado. Now, let's say you want to keep all those monthly expenses at a comfortable 15% of your average annual income.
