Community does not just find you, you build it. And once I saw this community for what it was, I knew I belonged here. I gave myself permission to grow. Like many of you here, my path has not been linear, and I don't think it ever will be. At the time, there was no internship, no clear direction, and a lot of fear. But remember who I refuse to remain, and modeling so many of you here, I stopped hiding. So many of you here have had to work full-time jobs to support yourself in and out of school because mom and dad already doing enough shifts. Mom and dad already giving up more than they can give. So many of you here have had to take care of family, both young and sick. And too many of you here have had to lose loved ones all in the same breath while balancing school. Rest in peace to my brother, Flo and Blazel, he would have walked across this stage here today as one of us. And rest in peace to my brother, Deandre Perkins Brown, he would have been in this audience today as one of us. Two names of too many that we have lost along the way. May their souls rest in peace.
