US Gov bans Anthropic's most powerful AI model in 72 hrs. The US government, citing national security authorities, has issued an export control directive to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether inside or outside the United States, including foreign national Anthropic employees. The net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all our customers to ensure compliance. It was so cracked that the US government literally banned it in 72 hours. Fable 5, the model that got banned, was basically a watered down version of their Mythos tier, which was already only restricted to cyber security officials and certain biology institutions. Basically, Mythos is god tier. We haven't seen anything like it. So they put a bunch of guard rails on it to prevent it from creating bombs and teaching people how to cook meth, and then they labelled it Fable 5 and put it out to the public. Well, apparently the guard rails weren't crazy enough because people were able to jailbreak it in a few days, and the whole can of worms got popped open. The US government stepped in and said, hey, you can't let any foreign entities use this stuff. Obviously they can't regulate that, so they just banned it for everybody. The government is really starting to lean into this AI regulation. I'm curious what you guys think. Is this good? Is this bad? Leave a comment.
