this is day one of breaking the matrix by starting a software company

One day… Or… Day one. If you know me well enough, you’ve probably heard me talk about my lifelong dream of buying a school bus, converting it into an RV, and traveling around the country in true hippie style. Well, over the course of the last few years, I’ve talked A LOT about this “dream”, but I’ve always let it be just that: a distant hope that one day, I will wake up with the money, the means, and the literal school bus to hit the road with. Guess what? School busses don’t fall out of the sky, and neither does the privilege of living a life that you have always wanted. It wasn’t until a few months ago when I finally decided that I had enough dreaming, and I was ready to take the first step towards making my dreams come true. The only problem? If I DID buy a bus and drive off until the sunset, would I really enjoy my adventure if I was working a 9-5 job, even if it was remote? I contemplated this question for some time, before coming to the realization that before I do something stupid like quit my job and go full-blown Christopher McCandless, I would need to also build a business. And not just any type of business — something that fit into the lifestyle I desired. I wasted countless hours exploring get-rich-quick schemes in an attempt to skip the genuine hard work and dedication that I needed to put myself through if I really wanted to accomplish my dream. Enter: the lightbulb moment. Something clicked, and I found the answer right in front of me. Software. Aka, the literal thing I went to school for, and had real-life experience with already. It seemed so obvious — there aren’t many other business models out there where people EXPECT to pay a monthly fee to use your service. So, I scrapped the thought of selling funny t-shirts on Etsy (Yes, a real thing I attempted for 3 weeks), and decided my new goal was to find a niche, painful problem that I could solve using technology. And then build a top notch product to solve it. Furthermore, if I was going to put all of this effort into building something from the ground up, why not document the journey for others to learn from? The good, the bad, & the ugly — if I can inspire just one other person to stop doomscrolling and take their own first step, then I consider this project to be a double success. That’s how we got to this moment, right here. I don’t know which problem I want to solve yet, nor do I have a roadmap for the exact path I need to follow to get me to my dream. But I DO know I took a step in the right direction today by overcoming my fear of being judged by the masses and posting this video. And I consider that a dang good start.
