People are saying where's the soccer but I think they're missing the point. First it's important to know that because this is an official World Cup project. There are guidelines from FIFA about what could and could not be included in the artwork. Certain imagery, logos, players and soccer related elements have restrictions. So the creative direction had to work within those parameters. It's also worth mentioning that those were the original concepts. I had to make adjustments along the way. We lost three days due to equipment issues and there were times when it wasn't safe to go up on the lift because of high winds. Those challenges required some changes during the process. But I worked hard to keep the essence and the spirit of the mural intact. That said, for me, the World Cup is so much more about the game. It's about what the game represents. At the center of the mural is a little boy dreaming big. He's imagining a future that feels larger than life because that's what the World Cup does. It inspires people, especially young people, to believe that anything is possible. Most of us will never play in the World Cup final, but we've all had a dream that felt impossible at some point. We've all looked up and wondered, what if this mural isn't about a specific player, team, or moment on the field? It is about the spirit of the World Cup. The hope, ambition, and possibility that it creates. The idea that a kid from Houston can dream big, as big as the world itself. Soccer is the catalyst, but the story is about believing that your dreams belong on the world stage too. That's the story I wanted to tell with this mural.
