I was diagnosed with a chronic pain condition called CRPS around three months ago now and I wanted to share my story with the whole experience as a positive recovery since when I was first diagnosed and went online there were so many negative things. This all started for me in November 0225. I was wearing a very tight new pair of leather loafers and I started feeling some electric shock pain through one of my toes. I ignored it and throughout November and December it seemed to get a little bit better. However, in early January, I went to a Pilates class and from that day on I was unable to walk properly. Now, I had broken my foot in this spot a couple of years ago, so I thought that the same spot had refractured. I went to the hospital and got X-rays, I had ultrasound, everything they worked and no one could find anything. They just told me it might be soft tissue damage and to rest and elevate and ice. However, after six weeks of resting, it was getting worse, not better. At the time in Europe with my best friend and my boyfriend, and thank goodness, my best friend's dad is a foot surgeon. So throughout this time, we started sending him photos of my foot and it got to a point where he told me that if I don't go back to Australia and get a proper diagnosis, that I might not be able to walk again. That day that he said that, I booked a flight and within that week, my boyfriend and I were back in Australia. This whole situation at the specific time in March was really, really horrible. My partner and I had quit our jobs to start a business and the same week that this was all going on, we had launched and there was so much hype around us, and so much excitement around our product launch and, you know, being in Lisbon and prior in London where there is such a hustle culture and so many exciting things and so many exciting people. Having to come back to Australia felt like we were putting our startup on pause. It felt like we were going to be putting our startup on pause. So we flew back from Lisbon to Australia and the next day I was admitted into hospital. It took about three days for these specialists to diagnose me with CRPS. They found new Romas in my foot and since my podiatrist thinks that I could have gout as well, which might have led to the CRPS. But in March into April, I spent two weeks in hospital. This was the Gold Coast Private Hospital, by the way. In Gold Coast Private, I was very lucky to meet a specialist named Dr. Hesini De Silva. I couldn't recommend her more. She's absolutely amazing. She runs a pain management program. So I left hospital and spent some time over Easter with my family before being readmitted into rehabilitation. Before being diagnosed with CRPS, I had no idea what it was. This program taught me so much, so so much about not only the physical side of it, but also mental. And it's only been since this injury being told I might never walk again, amputation is on the cards, that I've realized how much stress can really, really impact your body. So I've now been back in Australia for three months and today my boyfriend and I are flying back to London to continue our little life from a couple of months ago. As much as it has been so difficult losing momentum from our business, and I'm really actually glad this happened because it's taught me so much about mental health and how much I need to calm down and manage my stress levels, not just in my business but in all aspects of my life. It's definitely one of the most traumatizing and hardest experiences I've probably ever had. However, now that I have gone through it, I feel so much stronger to be able to run my business and live overseas and deal with life. I can now walk again. I'm jumping on tippy toes because I still had a little bit of pain in my toes when I would do tippy toes and have all of my weight bearing on my left foot. But apart from that, my quality of life has gone through the roof. Also think what's helped so much is being positive. It has been my goal from the start to get back to London to be optimizing my business, getting back to Steven Bartlett commenting on my posts. Like, I want to keep everyone up to date on my journey, but I really wanted to make this video to show you that there are positive outcomes to having CRPS and it doesn't have to be the extreme or the worst for you if you have it.
