There's one problem though. I can't have screw heads sticking out from the front surface because they'll press directly against the display panel. So before mounting anything, I'll need to countersink each hole slightly, creating a shallow recess so the screw head sits perfectly flush with the surface. The next problem I needed to solve was the uneven front surface. So after taking some measurements, I cut an additional piece to fill the gap and create a flat surface around the screen. Once I was happy with the fit, I secured it in place with adhesive. Now, this is probably the first DIY project I've built from scratch that's actually starting to look like a real product. And because of that, I wanted it to look as cool as possible when it was finished. That meant the plain foam board had to go. I considered painting it, but after thinking about it for a while, I came up with a better idea. Vinyl wrap, more specifically, a carbon fiber wrap style vinyl. What I like about it is that it doesn't look the same from every angle. As light hits the surface, the texture shifts and changes, creating a much more premium look. It's the same kind of effect you often see on cars wrapped in carbon fiber vinyl. And honestly, I think it suits this project perfectly. Applying the wrap isn't particularly difficult, but it does require patience. If you rush it, you'll end up with bubbles, wrinkles, or crooked edges. So I took my time and worked slowly. A heat gun or even a hairdryer helps a lot here because warming the material makes it more flexible and helps the adhesive bond much more securely to the surface. Then, I used a sharp tool to carefully pierce through the vinyl at each hole that was supposed to be there. Functionally, everything worked, but the back looked terrible. You could see all the wiring, the controller board, the phone mount, and pretty much every component exposed. It worked, but definitely didn't look finished. So my next idea was to create a rear cover of Formex board to hide all the hardware and give the build a cleaner appearance. Thankfully, this part is fairly straightforward. All I need is another sheet of Formex board cut to the correct dimensions. I also plan to place the display control buttons here on the rear cover as well. While I'm at it, I'll also mount the phone's power switch here. Well, once that's done, I'll wrap the panel in the same carbon fiber vinyl used on the rest of the build. Once the project is covered up, the whole project instantly looked cleaner and way more professional. Honestly, it turned out cooler than I expected. To secure the rear cover, I drilled four mounting holes and installed four threaded inserts. I also added a little adhesive to make sure they stay firmly in place over time. Turned phone itself looks pretty rough. Didn't the holder match the rest of the build? So I wrapped it in the same carbon fiber vinyl to keep the color scheme consistent throughout the project. Once that was finished, I mounted the rear cover permanently and just like that, the entire backside of the machine is done. Now, it's time to work on the front panel. Before wrapping the front panel, I also masked off the edges of the display to keep any adhesive from getting onto the screen itself. It's all about patience. The goal is to apply the vinyl cleanly as possible, avoiding wrinkles, bubbles, or raised edges that could ruin the final look. And with that, it's done. I have to admit, the end result exceeded my expectations. What started as a broken phone and a discarded laptop screen now looks like something you could actually buy. The carbon fiber finish ties everything together nicely, and the overall look feels far more polished than a typical DIY build. There was just one final challenge. The display had no way to support itself. Rather than overcomplicating things, I went with a simple triangular back. Surprisingly, it worked perfectly. It's sturdy, stable, and keeps the screen at a comfortable viewing angle. So, after all the cutting, wiring, drilling, and solving problems, my homemade all-in-one PC is finally ready. What I like most is its flexibility. When I'm not using Samsung DeX, I can still serve as a secondary display for another device. And because the phone remains inside the build, I can even use its camera as a built-in webcam. As for gaming performance, I won't be repeating all the benchmarks in this video.
