If you're a sucker for emotional indie game stories, this one's about to smack you right in the feels. This is Deer and Boy, a touching and cinematic new 2D platformer about a boy who meets a fragile fawn, and through their emotional journey, they build an unbreakable bond. It's kind of like if Inside had a more lighthearted whimsy to them. There's no dialogue, and the story is entirely told through the movement of the characters, and the beautiful soundtrack, which all works so well together to capture the emotion of each moment. It's got a lot of the qualities of some of your favorite animated movies, except you play it. The gameplay isn't just you moving through the environments though. You'll come across many clever puzzles to solve that perfectly blend in with the cinematic nature of the game. And though it largely operates as a 2D platformer, there are these perspective changes throughout that really make thoughtful use of the 3D spaces. This is the type of game where it doesn't really matter how old you are, everyone's going to take something valuable away from it. For me, it's a gorgeous story about friendship and the bonds that we build. And as a 33-year-old man, sometimes I need a little reminder of how valuable those things can be. Deer & Boy is available now on PC, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series consoles. Check it out if you're mentally prepared for a good cry. Thank you to Dear Villagers for sponsoring this video.
