Last time I tested the particle count in a MERV 12 furnace filter. This time I ran the exact same test with a MERV 8 The results were surprisingly close on the larger particles, but the MERV 12 still had the edge overall. Particle Reduction Comparison 0.3 μm • MERV 8: 45% • MERV 12: 5% 0.5 μm • MERV 8: 55% • MERV 12: 12% 1.0 μm • MERV 8: 71% • MERV 12: 25% 2.0 μm • MERV 8: 84% • MERV 12: 53% 5.0 μm • MERV 8: 96% • MERV 12: 90% 10.0 μm • MERV 8: 97% • MERV 12: 97% The biggest surprise? The MERV 8 did an incredible job on the larger particles. The MERV 12’s advantage is supposed to be in the smaller particle range, but these real-world results were definitely interesting. What MERV rating are you running in your home?
