A MATH PROFESSOR GOT SO FED UP WITH FAKE

A math professor got so fed up with fake science journals that he used ChatGPT to write a fake paper claiming that pregnant women, all they care about is prime numbers. And the journal accepted it within a few days and even invited him to speak at their conference. And this is exactly the kind of data that AI gets trained on. The biggest problems in academic research right now. This is Pascual, math professor at the University of Valencia, and he teaches math education, not gynecology. So when an obstetrics journal randomly emailed him for a paper, he'd had enough. He basically told ChatGPT to write the most ridiculous paper that it could. The paper was teaching pelvic geometry cuts birth anxiety by 13.7%. Basically, put the Fibonacci sequence on a labour chart, and pregnant women start craving prime numbers. And of course, this whole paper was a bunch of BS. Ridiculous. Even the fake sources that he cited were screaming, I'm lying! This is a fake paper. If anyone actually caught this instantly, submitted to the journal, days with minor revisions. The journal called it well written and a very interesting paper, of course, and once it was approved, the journal invoiced him close to three grand? He obviously didn't pay, but the paper was still published anyways. What's even more funny is that a gynecology conference invited him to speak about the prime number cravings. Now, this matters is because over 20,000 journals like this exist today, and they don't care about your research. They don't care that it's written by AI. They want the three grand. And it's not just fake journals. Earlier this year, researchers scan nearly every paper accepted to NeurIPS. If you don't know, NeurIPS, the top AI conferences in the world. And they found over 1,000 fabricated citations across 51 papers. Now, the implication is that junk like this is sitting right next to papers that are actually legitimate, just waiting to get pulled into models training data. Just one scenario.
