Everybody's freaking out about this because this is probably the biggest new thing in AI right now. This unreleased OpenAI model just solved 10 major open problems in mathematics, quantum complexity, and theoretical computer science. We believe it will be a major step for scientific reasoning. openai.com/index/ten-adva... I asked Fable how hard these problems are, and its response is worth reading. "On the Fields Medal scale, any single one of these...would plausibly anchor a medal case" It's crazy to see this happening. And so this is done by this new model called Astra, which hasn't been released yet. And I can't find the tweet anymore. I was searching for it. But I saw somewhere where Noam Brown, who works at OpenAI, said that Astra is able to go through these 10 problems for less than $20,000 worth of tokens. A lot of mathematicians are obviously freaking out. They've spent the last 15 years thinking about, there are a lot of nice problems that I like, but it's not so easy to find a favorite problem. So what happens when an AI has answered the handful of my favorite problems that I've spent the last 15 years thinking about? There are a lot of nice problems that I like, but it's not so easy to find a favorite problem. And they don't really know what to work on. Now, to be fair, the solutions that this Astra model has output haven't been formally verified yet. But still, it's a big step. So what happens to the fields and the academics and the researchers in them? But also to us as a society, when we can easily answer, easily answer, quote, some of these problems. What does that actually mean? I'll make a separate video trying to break down each of these 10 solutions and what they can mean for the real world and what value and benefits that we as a society could see from them.
