One thing I get asked a lot is whether LECA size matters. Personally, I like using smaller LECA for plants with finer root systems because the roots can spread through the spaces more easily. For larger plants with thicker roots, I usually reach for larger LECA since it leaves bigger gaps around the roots. The nice thing about LECA is that the clay balls naturally create pockets of air between them, while moisture travels from pebble to pebble until it reaches the roots. Together, that creates the balance of oxygen and moisture that plants need to thrive. One important thing to remember is that LECA is an inert substrate, so it doesn’t provide nutrients on its own. That’s why I always fertilize the reservoir water. #alocasia #leca #semihydro #PlantTok #houseplants
