THINGS I WISH I KNEW BEFORE GOING THROUGH SORORITY RECRUITMENT

Here's some things I wish I knew before going through sorority recruitment. My name's Quinn and last fall I rushed at Oklahoma State University and I became a Pi Beta Phi. The whole entire recruitment experience really just changed my perspective on meeting people. So I want to share what I learned. Something that isn't talked about enough is your resume. It's so important to have an updated resume and a big part of your resume should be community service. I made my resume fun and colorful just so it kind of matched my personality and stood out. I've also been told to add a good picture of yourself. You do not want anything like a selfie or really just tacky in general because they want to see how you represent yourself outside of the conversations you have during rush. One thing I thought was so fun was going on to your school's like meet and greet page and following a bunch of girls from your class because you're going to see a bunch of girls during rush and meet PNMs throughout that experience. So it's cool to kind of go in and like already know some familiar faces. I used to do pageants so I've done a lot of interview training and I realized that those skills could also be used for recruitment because you're being interviewed but you're also interviewing the members. Something someone told me was to never say anything negative about your appearance. For example, if you're having an interview with someone and they're like, what's something you wish you could change about yourself and you're like, I have the biggest hands or I have the biggest nose or just something negative, then that could be the only thing they look at for the rest of the interview, which is sad, but it's psychology. Whenever you're talking to someone, something that's very noticeable is their hands. So I always tell anyone that if you're having an interview or you're going through rush, it's important to get your nails done. I'm sure that we've all seen like the rush bag videos. I made one last year and one thing I didn't realize was that the members of the houses are not going to see your bag. You're not allowed to bring anything into the house and you're not allowed to take anything out of the house. So sure other PNMs are going to see your bag, but you don't have to have the most expensive bag on the market. It should be filled with things that you will need throughout the week. One thing no-no is texting members during recruitment. So if you know a girl in the house and you reach out to her during recruitment like, oh my gosh, I love your house, blah blah blah, then that's putting the member in an awkward position because they can't text you back. Their goal is to get you to the house you belong, even if that's not their house. Go in with an open mind. You might like some houses that you've heard like not the best houses, but there's literally no such thing as taws. If you connect with the house on a personal level, then that's really all that matters despite the house's reputation because reputations can be very deceiving. So go wherever you feel the most loved and the most comfortable because there are great girls in every house. My mom told me to treat every house like it's my dream house because those girls are so excited to meet you and so you should share that same excitement. It is super important to ask yourself not only what can the house do for you, but what you can do for the house to make a difference and show them that you would be a great addition to their chapter. So make it known. Keep in mind that this is your recruitment and no one else's. So if someone starts trying to influence your decisions, don't let them because if you feel a certain way, then you should go with your gut. Thank you guys so much for watching.
