We don’t deprive, we allocate with purpose! Last year my total expenses were less than $35k (fighting lifestyle creep like it’s my job) and that includes a trip out East. As my income grew over the years, my savings rate—and the extra money available for real experiences—grew right along with it. I did not sacrifice the things I loved (including travel). Instead, I used value-based spending to become a highly disciplined designer of my life so I could keep them. Not every trip was max glamour or luxury—my very first trip to Mexico was a Groupon—but each one was absolutely worth it.
