Montserrat is one of the hidden gems in all of Europe. Founded in the year 1025, with initial mentions dating back to the year 888. It’s nestled in the mountains about 1 hour north of Barcelona and its even accessible by public transit. You can take a tram or train to the base of the mountain, and then the optional Trolley car takes you further up for more scenic views. You HAVE to take the trolley car “Sant Joan Funicular” - that’s the one from the opening shot of the video. There’s also a TON of hiking available - you could literally spend 2 days hiking the various trails, with signs posted warning you of necessary skill level for each. But you can also keep it very casual and just walk the base and see artwork, the chapel, and amazing views. Do not skip this next time you’re in Barcelona #barcelona #montserrat #spain #travel
