The drop it was supposed to bring back their most powerful AI model, but they just gave us this instead. Anthropic just launched Sonnet 5. This is everything you need to know in under 50 seconds. Firstly, the performance you get with Sonnet 5 is almost on par on coding tasks with Opus 4.8, but at a fraction of the cost. Secondly, you now have a wide range of costs with respect to effort task, so you can choose a low effort task for Sonnet 5 and pay a minimal amount of tokens, getting good performance. Thirdly, on a lot of tests that they ran with partners, they've shown that Sonnet 5 is really good at agentic tasks, which means that anything you throw at Sonnet 5 at, it'll be not cost-effective, but autonomously out certain complete long horizon tasks.
