Imposter Syndrome??
4 years at Google.
But, did I belong?
My first big project got mixed reviews.
My first promotion attempt failed.
Congratulations and welcome!
Year 3 was the most critical year.
Dusty not happy I'm working.
Months 0-6
- Onboarding.
- Trying to learn as much as possible.
- Lots of imposter syndrome.
Months 6-12
- Delivered my first big project.
- Mixed reviews.
- Not happy with how it turned out.
First time in California!
Welcome to Google!
Year 2
- Continued building and delivering.
- Went up for promo and failed, but dodged layoffs.
- Happy for now, but disappointed no promo.
One of my first presentations!
Scalability: What happens when you go from 1 to 100 concurrent users?
Year 3
- Built more and chatted with other engineers.
- Listened to feedback and iterated.
- Got my promo!
Year 3.5
- Starting feeling stuck in my role.
- Switched to an AI content team.
- Super excited to start making videos and content!
Year 4
Way too many food options on this campus
- Having fun, learning lots.
- Started realizing my content was being built for Google instead of for myself.
Year 4.9
The Baristas are so talented.
- Made the tough decision to leave and pursue an opportunity where I could build for myself.
- Will never forget everything I learned!
