what i read what i read in june let's talk about all the books that I read in june I ended up reading 10 books this month per your request we will go in ranking order which means people start with my lowest rated book of the month which was the most by Jessica Anthony Unfortunately I did give this book one star which I'm really bummed about it's a 130 page weird litfic book it takes place in Northern Delaware which is literally where Gavin was born and raised his entire life it just totally missed the mark for me I felt like I was reading one long run-on sentence that never ended up finding itself again Then I read Let's Not Go Overboard Here I gave this book two stars I really thought I was going to love this especially as a fan of Bravo as a fan of pop culture If you are a fan of those two things I think you should give this one a try but it was giving murder mystery meets below deck I didn't feel very connected to any of the characters or the plot in general Close Relationships with Strangers I ended up on a three star rating for this It is about our main character Ben who was a wildlife photographer turned paparazzi in Los Angeles He is obsessed with this one specific celebrity and we watch Ben slowly loses himself in getting a photo of this celebrity It was very dark and sexual at times but the ending left me very unsatisfied Five Five by Ilona Bannister This is our third book pick for June and I'm ending up at a three star rating for this Everyone's ratings for all over the board everybody pulled something different that they enjoyed out of this book which in my opinion makes for a great book club And I have a bunch of four star ratings starting with Here's to Us by Elin Hilderbrand This was my personal third to last Elin novel I only have left the matchmaker and swan song And this one you're thrown into this crazy family dynamic everything always feels very overwhelming and intimidating at first but at the end of her books she hands you this perfectly wrapped up story The Anniversary by Alex Finlay This was my first book by Alex Finlay I will definitely not be reading my last I really enjoyed this especially as somebody who is very tough on thrillers I liked the pacing of this book because not only does it have short chapters so I was just flipping the page very rapidly but the story itself jumps forward year by year If you want to add to your summer TBR Ms. Mebel Goes Back to the Chopping Block Ms. Mebel Goes Back to the Chopping Block by Jesse G. Swiler Our main character Mable is 63 years old and she sends herself back to culinary school when her husband tells her that he is leaving her for their private And it's a story of Mable just finding herself and really growing into her character by the end of this book you are Mable's number one fan Alan Opts Out Alan Opts Out by Courtney Maum Alan works in advertising and after this massive pitch he has tanked He starts living off the grid in his family's backyard At the same time his wife is trying to get into this like high society club in their neighborhood which isn't really an ideal time for your husband to be living off the grid in your backyard It was quirky it was funny the way that the kids were written made me laugh out loud multiple times If you read the road to tender hearts I really think you would enjoy this I also listened to Whistler by Ann Patchett Ann Patchett herself married she's a beautiful storyteller Don't go into this book thinking there's going to be a massive twist it's just fiction at its best about a family dynamic I was watching this family rekindle their love for each other after so many years have passed I gave five stars to Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid And I know it's insane that as someone that reads books for a living I have not read this book until now But I'm glad that I have not read this book until now because when I started getting back into reading as an adult back in 2020 I don't think I would have given this the appreciation that it truly deserves I love the writing I love the story I loved the Malibu setting And I will definitely be reading Carrie Soto is back next
