Fable 5 is back. So I just spent all of my session tokens asking Fable to make me a video from scratch that teaches me something. And it basically did everything. Like, it chose this topic. It wrote this entire script. I did do a voice over for it, but then it did also find all of these images online, I guess, and made all of these graphics for this video. But here's the video. Astronauts say space has a smell. And it's seared steak? Every astronaut coming back from a spacewalk reports the same thing. Their suit smells like burnt steak, hot metal, welding fumes. But space is a vacuum. There's nothing to smell. So what's going on? The answer, atomic oxygen. Up there, raw UV from the sun rips two molecules apart into single angry oxygen atoms. Those atoms cling to suits and tools, and when astronauts repressurize the airlock, the atoms react. Basically tiny combustion. That's the smell. NASA took it so seriously that they hired a chemist to recreate the smell for training. You can literally buy it as a perfume. And here's my favorite part. The center of our galaxy contains ethylformate, the chemical that gives raspberries their flavor. So space smells like steak and raspberries. I guess the universe has a menu.
