SpaceX is hiring software engineers with no degree required. One line in the qualifications: "OR 2+ years of professional experience building software in lieu of a degree." But don't celebrate yet — read the rest. This is the Application Software team. SpaceX calls it the company's "central nervous system." They build the mission-critical apps that run launch vehicle production and keep Starlink growing into a worldwide internet service. The actual work: next-generation manufacturing software for high-throughput factories, and systems that handle concurrent streams of data from thousands of always-on assets. So what do they really want? The "preferred" list is the answer — and it's just a full description of a senior product engineer. Full-stack. React. Go or C#. Kafka for in-stream data. Docker and Kubernetes. CI/CD. Performance profiling. That's the market insight: the degree is negotiable, the proof of building is not. They'll trade the diploma for a portfolio that shows you can ship. A project that proves it: a Factory Throughput Operations Console. Stream always-on machine data through Kafka, show real-time line health, let operators run the line — containerized, monitored, built to hold up under load. That's the difference between "I can code" and "I can build the system a factory runs on." (One catch: onsite in Texas, and it's ITAR — US persons only.) #SpaceX #SoftwareEngineering #FullStackDeveloper #NoDegreeRequired #TechJobs
