This is how I prevent breakouts, protect my skin barrier and my skin health while using tretinoin and also trying a lot of new products at the same time. One thing about that I always prioritize my barrier. I use tretinoin regularly and I'm constantly testing new skincare all the time because it's part of my job. So I know my skin is under more stress than usual. That's why I always try to support my skin barrier with ingredients like ceramides, panthenol, bifida, ferments and other barrier supporting ingredients. I don't have strong skin. My skin used to get pretty easily. So my goal has always been to make it as resilient as possible. One change that made a huge difference was stopping cleansing oils as my daily first cleanse. I've talked about this before, but for my skin, using it every day wasn't the best. It felt like it stripped over too much of my natural oil and my barrier became healthier one stopped. This doesn't mean cleansing oils are bad. If your skin loves cleansing oils, keep them. This is just what worked for me instead. To my daily first cleanse, I use a cleansing balm. And honestly, it changed my barrier. It feels so much stronger. Since I'm still very clog prone, I use a cleansing balm whenever I wear makeup, tinted sunscreen or about once a week for a deeper cleanse. Next, barrier creams. These are absolute essentials for me. I genuinely can't live without them. Whenever my skin is irritated or my barrier is compromised, barrier creams is always my SOS treatment. But because I have combination oily, clog prone skin, I can't use them daily. But I've been using Dr. Althea's 345 cream. I'm actually obsessed with it. It's lightweight but somehow keeps my skin really hydrated. Let's talk about my favorite category, serums. There are so many amazing serums on the market, but the ones I consistently love for keeping my skin healthy are Purcell Pixel Bifida 2 Billion. It has bifida, which is great for skin health. And I unique beta glucan is more hydrating than hyaluronic acid. I can't forget Celimax toner. This has so much for my skin barrier. Finally, sunscreen. If you're using tretinoin, sunscreen is your best friend. You can have the best skincare routine in the world, but without sunscreen, you're not protecting all the progress your skin is making.
