How am I using tretinoin almost every night with zero irritation? Here's what I do. First, only use a pea-sized amount. It doesn't look like much, but trust me. It is enough to cover your entire face. Don't overdo it with tretinoin. Less is more with tretinoin. Next, if you want to make tretinoin tolerable, don't skip hydration. I always add a hydrating toner with tretinoin night. Choosing barrier-like ingredients like ceramides, panthenol, bifida, PDRN and hyaluronic acid or other calming and hydrating ingredients. This step keeps my skin super hydrated. Honestly made the biggest difference in preventing irritation. I'm not a fan of the sandwich method with two layers of moisturizer because my skin clogs really easily and I don't like how heavy it feels. But if that method works for you, go for it. And after tretinoin, I finish with a rich cream moisturizer. I usually prefer over a gel because tretinoin can be really drying. By the time you're done, your skin should look like a glazed donut before bed. These simple steps are why I wake up with hydrated skin instead of feeling burning or irritated.
