Please tell me we weren’t (aren’t) the only ones 😅 and for the record none of these habits felt reckless or irresponsible while we were doing them. I think that’s what makes debt so dangerous. it’s not always one giant mistake. it’s hundreds of small choices that slowly became our normal. 1. we had no idea where our money was actually going. I couldn’t have told you how much our monthly bills were, how much we spent on groceries, or even what came into our account every month. we tracked nothing and just hoped we had enough in our account. looking back, I can’t believe how disconnected I was from our money. 2. we spent money before we actually had it…shocker every tax refund, raise, bonus, or extra paycheck was already spoken for before it ever hit our bank account. I don’t feel like we ever considered how that money could get us ahead…we were usually thinking, “Ooh…now we can finally buy that.” 3. we kept telling ourselves we’d deal with it later. when vacation was over, after the holidays, when we made more money, when the stars aligned… but here’s what finally clicked for me: if I wasn’t willing to put an extra $20 toward our debt, why did I think I’d magically start putting an extra $200 toward it? paying off $65,000 of credit card debt happened for a few reasons and one of them being because we started recognizing these patterns. and they still pop up sometimes 😬 but now we notice them before they take over. the insane part is that these are only 3 of probably 20 quiet habits we had to unlearn while fixing our finances. should I spill the rest??? which one can you relate to? #payingoffdebt #debt #personalfinancetips fixing our finances debt payoff series
