Men’s fashion over 40 and yes, I caved and got the Birkenstock Boston clogs. I never thought I’d be a clogs guy. Some shoes feel like you need to slowly talk yourself into them. You see them on other people, think “fair enough, but not for me”, then one day you try them on and suddenly you’re building outfits around them like this was always the plan. That is apparently where I am now. This is a simple summer outfit for men over 40: green Tu shorts, oversized white tee from Next Edit, ASOS socks, taupe Birkenstock Boston clogs, Cubitts Frederick XL glasses in Quartz and the chain MiniJam chose for me, which automatically makes it the most valuable piece in the fit. The shorts were a surprise too. I went to Sainsbury’s for turkey mince and brown rice because Operation: See My Kids Get Old is very much real life now, and somehow ended up finding green shorts that felt more Carpark Catwalk than meal prep errand. That’s what I like about style over 40 now. It is less about trying to impress people and more about noticing what actually feels good. What works. What moves. What feels like you. Some of that is confidence. Some of it is body confidence after weight loss. Some of it is just getting to an age where you stop asking strangers for permission to enjoy clothes. A few years ago, I’d probably have talked myself out of clogs, green shorts, or both. Too odd. Too much. Too easy for someone to have an opinion. These days, I’m more interested in whether the fit feels right. And this one does. So yes, I caved and got the clogs. Are you with me, or are you still resisting? Carpark Catwalk continues.
