PRE MED TRACK I FOLLOWED THE PRE-MED TRACK TO GETTING INTO MEDICAL SCHOOL. NCLEX AND STARTED I PASSED MY NCLEX AND STARTED ICU WORKING IN THE ICU. I GRADUATED COLLEGE AND STARTED MEDICAL SCHOOL. I WORKED THREE 12 HOUR SHIFTS PAYCHECK LET ME IN MY FIRST PAYCHECK LET ME START SUPPORTING MYSELF. WHILE MY FRIENDS WHILE MY FRIENDS GOT THEIR FIRST PAYCHECKS, I WAS SIGNING AFTER TWO YEARS I WAS SIGNING FOR MORE LOANS. THE ICU, AFTER TWO YEARS OF WORKING IN UNDERSTAND CRITICALLY ILL PATIENTS. SCHOOL, HALF WAY THROUGH MED I STARTED ROTATIONS WORKING WITH REAL PATIENTS. THAT'S WHEN I BECOMING A CR STARTED THINKING SERIOUSLY ABOUT ANAESTHESIA. I HAD A STABLE JOB, STEADY INCOME, AND LET IT GO TO I STILL WASN'T EARNING ANYTHING AND OF TRAINING LEFT. BUT NERVOUS TO TIME STUDENT AGAIN. I GRADUATED, BECAME A DOCTOR, ANESTHESIA RESIDENCY. AND STARTED MY MY FIRST RESIDENT PAYCHECK FELT GOOD, BUT THE THAT THE YEARS AHEAD, THAT WAS PRETTY REAL. I FINISHED SCHOOL, PASSED MY BOARDS, AND STARTED WORKING NA. AS A CRNA. MY SAVINGS AND PLANNING FOR A FAMILY. OTHER PEOPLE MY AGE WERE BUYING HOMES, STARTING FAMILIES, AND I WAS STILL NOW I HAVE OPTIONS. I CAN SURGERY CENTRE OR MAKE MY SCHEDULE, WHATEVER I WANT. I FINISHED RESIDENCY, I ADDED A BECAME AN ATTENDANT. MY INCOME AND MY FREEDOM WENT UP, THE WEIGHT OF EVERY DECISION I MADE. IN THE OR I SAID AT THE HEAD OF THE BED, KEEP THE PATIENT SAFE. This isn’t about which path is better. It’s about opportunity cost. One path usually starts earning earlier as a nurse, gains ICU experience, then returns to anesthesia training. The other delays earning longer, goes through medical school, then completes anesthesiology residency. Different timelines. Different sacrifices. Different responsibilities. Different rewards.
