How much money does the typical household have set aside in their 401k by age group?

How much money does the typical household have set aside in their 401k by age group? And how does it compare to your balance and your household at your age? These numbers are based on the Federal Reserve and study and these are the median numbers in America. And just so you know, these are not numbers that you should be striving for because most Americans do not and will not have enough money to retire, as you're about to see. So these are not what you should have, these are just what most people do have. And before we get to these numbers, please comment down below your age and your current balance and your current 401k balance so we can see how it compares to these numbers. Also, one quick note again, these are median, not average. Median is different than average. Median is the middle number and it is not skewed by bigger or smaller numbers. Starting at ages under 35, the median balance in their 401k is $39,000 for their household. Going up to ages 35 to 44, the median balance is $135,600. For 45 to 54, it jumps up to $247,200. 55 to 64, which is approaching retirement age, is $364,500. So these guys are about to retire. Ages 65 to 74, which at this point, you're likely retired or want to be retired, the median balance is $409,900. Then ages 75 and older, assuming I guess you've probably taken withdrawals at this point, the median balance is $335,600. Now, if we just take the biggest number on that list, $409,900, and we use the standard 4% withdrawal rate rule, if they are actually using that rule, they would be withdrawing around $16,000 a year plus social security, that they would be living off of. So like I said, this is where a lot of Americans currently are, this is not where you want to be, you want to be much higher than these numbers by the time you actually retire.
