Spend a morning with me as a 23-year-old living in remote Alaska. Now, this isn't your typical Alaska. We actually live on an island off the coast of Alaska. And no, this was not by choice. We were sent here from his military orders. Our island has one main fishing town, which is where we headed to this morning. There was a matcha pop-up and I got a strawberry matcha latte and it was insane. Even though it was 60 degrees, we were still willing to make today a beach day and that's why I was wearing a bikini. I swear I'm not crazy. If you've ever been to a Pacific Northwest beach, our island scenery is almost identical. It's almost always cold in Alaska, even in our summer. If you're from the mainland, you would definitely find it chilly. I like to call it the Alaskan delusion where you think anything above 40 degrees is so hot. We were previously stationed in Florida and California, so Alaska has definitely been a change of pace. Not to mention the drastic change to island living on top of that. Shipping and packages take weeks to get here. We have very limited grocery stores and only a handful of restaurants on this island. The nature 100% makes up for all of that. It feels like we can only enjoy that for two or three months because our summers are so short. I always joke that Alaska has 10 months of winter and I think it's kind of true. I love Alaska dearly, but I do not think I could live here for the rest of my life. I had to head home to start working and that was my morning here in Alaska.
