This is a quick PSA to anyone that's looking for a job right now you're not the problem the market is. The market doesn't care where you used to work it doesn't care how many years of experience that you have it doesn't care where you went to school anyone can get it and you can't afford to internalize the rejection that you may be seeing in your job search to the point you think that something's wrong with you or to the point where you stop trying altogether there's a couple of things that play first 90% of resumes never get seen 90% of resumes never get seen if you've heard about the lawsuits with Workday that's an ATS an ATS is an applicant tracking system that is where your resume goes when you apply for a job it's not being seen by a human so since AI is doing the screening there's a really good chance that you may get auto rejected there's a really good chance that you may get discriminated against there's a good chance that you are not going to be judged in the best light because a human isn't reviewing your application the second thing is because there's so much instability in the market we have 10 times as many people looking for jobs there are a lot of people that are recovering from layoffs like I know people that went to stellar schools Ivy League educated I know people that have worked at some of the biggest companies in the world stellar resumes and they are still looking so I share this because I know there are a lot of people that are frustrated and they're starting to think that there's something wrong with them when it actually has nothing to do with you since this is the case there are two things that I would advise for you to do and this is coming from someone that's been a career coach for a very long time first you need to increase your visibility increasing your visibility doesn't mean that you need to start a substack tomorrow it doesn't mean that you need to start a YouTube channel tomorrow it does mean you need to think about who you are as a thought leader you need to start posting more on LinkedIn even if you don't want to come up with a unique post you can comment or like someone else's LinkedIn can't tell the difference it generates as activity so you'll start to pop up in other people's feeds people will not know to reach out to you about opportunities unless they actually see you the second thing is you need to leverage your network at all costs 90% of jobs are found through referrals anyway and I'm pretty sure that number has increased within the last year or so talk to former colleagues old bosses people that you used to work with that you genuinely like see what's going on with them I work in tech and I see it all the times like I see entire teams leave companies and go to a different one you need to talk to people you need to find the human aspect in this because AI is controlling everything behind the scenes but yeah it's not you
