So I've been investing since 1999. It's a long time and here are just a few of the things that I've learned in that time, or maybe even just some things that I wish I had done a little bit differently. Max out your Roth IRA. It is your retirement account, it grows tax free. Just find a way to do it. Speaking of finding a way to do it, get a side hustle, get a second job. You have the time and the energy now to make as much money as you can and dump it all into your investments. You are young, focus on tech and growth. I got a message from someone the other day who said they were in their 20s and they had 40% bonds in their portfolio. Dude, what? 40%? Bonds are for old people. Why you have 40% bonds? You're young, take a chance, not a risk. You don't have to put your life savings into a meme coin and then hope for the best, but focus on growth and technology. Learn about risk management. That is not putting in more than you're willing to lose in high risk or speculative investments in the first place. Money you could lose tomorrow and be like, oh well, it is what it is. Travel, spend money on travel. Don't worry about clothes and tech and gadgets and fancy cars you can't really afford. Don't worry about renting that fancy apartment downtown, even though you could live a little bit further away and save some money. Travel and focus on experiences. I am telling you from firsthand accounts watching people who are older, it gets harder to travel the older you get. Not impossible, and there's things you can do like cruises and bus tours, which many people still do, but do the fun shit, the hard stuff, the big long trips now finally. In this one is like near impossible nowadays. I understand that. Try to own some real estate. Just try it. It is expensive now, it will get more expensive later. When I was a kid, a house where I live in Washington D.C. was $300,000 and that to my mom felt very expensive and unattainable. And now those same $300,000 houses are selling for $2 million. They will probably increase, they probably won't go up that much over the next 20 or 30 years, but they will still increase. You wanna own some real estate if you can. Oh, and one last thing. Please take care of yourself. There's no point in having a diversified investment portfolio or an income property or plans to do stuff down the road if you are in poor health. Exercise, go to the gym, lift weights, go on walks, take care of yourself. Eat properly. Do that now. It will also pay dividends down the road.
