Their other posts in the index, biggest breakout first.
I'm 21 with an investment portfolio that will reach six figures before the end of the year. Here are four things I would tell my 18-year-old self. If I would have done these things, my portfolio would probably be two times bigger by now. One is open a HYSA. I used to have just large sums of money just sitting in my account not making any interest. From 2022 to 2024, HYSA accounts averaged around 3 to 3.5% APY. I lost out on thousands of dollars just by not having one. The second would be invest. From 2022 to 2024, the S&P returns were pretty good. 10k invested in 2022 to 2024 would have been around $13,000, so about a $3,000 profit. And just with compound interest and things of that nature, my portfolio would be way more by now. Third would be budget. Money came and money left. I always knew I had another check coming so I never thought to really budget. I could have been more disciplined and had more money today. And then the last one would be like women. Talking to multiple people at a time, it not knowingly had me spending more money. For example, if I'm doing like three first dates at Ben and Jerry's in a week, that adds up over time. Days like Valentine's Day, Christmas, birthdays, things like that. Valentine's Day being in Whole Foods or Kroger with three different bouquets on, it's not really it. And then if I really liked you, we would go on a trip somewhere, do things of that nature. Really didn't need to do that in hindsight, but I just say all this to say to be smart with your money, know where every dollar goes, and if you're young, take advantage of these four things. Do it right and you should be set up by the time you're 21 going into your 20s.
