The average home in America is over 44 years old. But before you start doing any sort of renovations, these are the five projects that are going to give you the most bang for your buck. No. 5 is a minor kitchen remodel. This means updating painting the cabinets, putting in a new sink or new lights. This does not mean custom cabinets or changing the layout of your kitchen. The average cost of a minor kitchen remodel is $28,000 and typically you can recoup about $32,000, which means that you would be recouping 113% of your money. Next on the list is replacing your siding. First, cement siding actually gives you the best returns. This one's kind of obvious, it just increases curb appeal and at the same time gives the impression that the house was well maintained. Typically this costs about $21,000 to recoup almost $25,000, which means that you're recouping about 114%. Number three on the list is manufactured stone veneer. Putting stone around the front entry, putting stone around your porch columns, maybe putting it around the garage. Does not mean putting stone around your entire house. The reason why this typically gives you your buck is because it makes the home look more custom built and it's relatively inexpensive. The average project is about $11,000, but you can recoup $24,000 on it. It's a 208% ROI. Number two on the list is the entry door. Steel doors will give you the maximum ROI. Super low cost project and it completely changes the first impression of the home. Typically cost about $2,400, you can recoup $5,200 to 216% ROI. Number one is garage doors. Doors on average cost $4,300, but you typically can recoup over $15,000. Photographs. Well, it dominates the front of your house and again, it's curb appeal. And it offers almost a 400% ROI.
