This is the day in the life of someone who made $60,000 in 2001. I wake up to the sound of my wife making breakfast. Then I head downstairs and admire our 3,000 square foot, four bedroom home. We really stretched ourselves thin. We even had to go with the two car garage because we're not made of money. My wife really wanted to quit her job. Last year, I told her, look honey, now that I make $60,000 a year, she can! We don't need a second income. While eating breakfast, I tell my wife, tonight I'm taking my wife to this new fancy restaurant, Olive Garden. Then I'm going to surprise her with a new van. Little does she know, I'm taking her to the Ford dealership. Time to upgrade our sedan to a minivan. We don't make enough to afford one of those brand new $20,000 vans. But I've had my eye on this two-year-old van. We know we can get for $9,000. We're expecting another one soon and want three kids. Kids are expensive, but I make $60,000! We know it costs a lot to raise a kid, but I make $60,000 a year. We can afford it. Where did I find such a great salary, you may ask? I'm a senior sales associate at Men's Warehouse! I've put in four hard years of work at Men's Warehouse. My boss asked if I could stay late. I explained to him that I already had plans with my wife and family. He knows family first! He says, no problem, family always comes first. For lunch, I grab a sandwich with some of my coworkers. Sometimes I bring lunch to work, but I make $60,000 a year. A $6 sandwich is nothing! I make $60,000! There's nothing wrong with getting a $6 meal here and there. After work, I surprised my wife with the $9,000 van. She asked if we can afford it. Of course! We make $60,000! She asked if we can afford this car. Of course! We make $60,000 a year. I remind her I make $60,000 a year. And then we enjoy an Italian meal together. I was shocked, it cost $40! But today was a special day, so I decided to leave them a $5 tip. I was feeling generous after that. When we get home, there was nothing on TV, so my wife asked me to run to Blockbuster. Some movie called Shrek? I've never heard of it, but figured why not give it a chance. It's right next to my favorite froyo spot! Win win! Well that's me! Just a normal frugal dad! Over all, just your average Wednesday for a guy making $60,000 a year.
