Building PCs Then VS NOW! $999 2005 $8063 TODAY 1996 Check out my new PC. Nice. What's in it? I got this 200Mhz Intel Pentium Processor, a 2GB Hard Drive, 32MB RAM and a CD-ROM Drive. Wait, two gigs of storage and not two gigs of RAM? Yeah, 32 megabytes of RAM. Who has two gigabytes of RAM? What about the GPU? Oh, this is the best part. I have a 3DFX Voodoo GPU with 4MB RAM and a Matrox Millenium 4MB 2D Card. Wait, a 3D and a 2D card? Two? Yeah, the 3DFX graphics card doesn't work without a card to do 2D graphics. And is that Windows 95? Yes sir. It's the pinnacle of operating systems. What else did you use? And how much did all of this cost? I mean, it's a little expensive. So the whole bill came out to $2,500. Jeez, that is expensive. 2008 Yo, that computer. Yes sir. I built this baby with an Intel Core 2 Quad, 4GB DDR2 RAM and a 1TB Hard Drive. Oh wow. And is that a 1080p monitor? Not quite. It's a 900p monitor, which my Radeon HD4870 is more than capable of running smoothly at high FPS. Wait, isn't it 2008? Why are you running Windows XP and not Vista? Oh, Vista was just too buggy. So I uninstalled it and went back down to XP. And how much did all of this cost? Well, since this is a higher-end PC, the whole thing did cost about $1,100. What? Damn. 2018 Check out my new high-end gaming PC. I've got a Ryzen 7 2700X, 16GB RAM and a 1TB SSD. That's pretty cool. But what about the GPU? Oh, this thing is a beast. I've got an RTX 2080, which is a pretty high-end card. So it was very expensive. How expensive? Like $700. What? That's it? How much was the whole build? Well, including all the components and Windows 10, which is $100 for some reason, the whole build came out to $2,000. $2,000 for a high-end build. Damn. 2026 What PC build did you build? Well, I've got a Ryzen 7 9800X3D, 64GB of RAM and a 1TB NVMe SSD. Damn. And what about the GPU? Oh, this is the best part. I've got an RTX 5090. Really? How much did it cost? About $4,000 for the GPU alone. Wait, the 2018 guy built his old PC for $2,000, bro. Maybe you'll get some RAM for $2,000. This whole build costs about $7,000. What? How's the average person supposed to afford this? Jesus. At least since this is Linux. This is not better.
