Here's a manipulation tactic that creates false intimacy. The educated baddie series. People could use to make you feel emotionally attached to them faster. I'm studying dark psychology for fun. So this is what I learned today. They tell you something deeply personal and then suddenly you feel like you know them better than anybody else does. And then you start to think, now they've told you this, that you're way closer than you were. And then you start to form your attachments. This is called the reciprocal self-disclosure. And there is a darker side to it. So they open up to you and tell you something that you think they probably wouldn't tell most people. And suddenly, a conversation with someone you barely know can feel incredibly deep. They'll even say something like, I've never told anyone this before. Or something like, I don't know why, but I feel like I can tell you anything. And they trusted you to tell you something personal, you may feel vulnerable enough to share something with them. Now you both know things about each other that most people don't. And your brain then will interpret that emotional vulnerability as closeness. However, this is where it starts to get darker. Knowing someone's secret is not the same as deeply knowing someone. You may know about someone's childhood trauma before you know how they behave when they're angry. You may know their biggest insecurity before you know whether their words match their actions. You may feel emotionally connected to them before they've earned your trust. This doesn't mean that everyone who opens up quickly is trying to manipulate you. Some people are naturally open, nervous, lonely, or simply feel comfortable talking about things. But vulnerability can be used to create a sense of intimacy much faster than the relationship itself has developed. Sometimes the feeling of 'I've never connected with someone like this before' may actually be a manipulation tactic. We shared a lot of deeply personal information in a very short amount of time.
