Obsidian changed Note taking forever. Most note taking apps want you to keep everything inside their platform. But then Obsidian works differently because every note is just a plain text file on your computer. And so what this means is that you actually own your notes. And so if you decide to move to another provider or if let's say Obsidian disappear tomorrow, then your notes wouldn't. You can still open them anywhere, so there's really no vendor locking. You don't need to worry about subscriptions just to access your own information because it's free. And for me, that's the biggest reason why I use it. Not because it's flashy, it's new, but because at the end of the day, my knowledge belongs to me.
