You can declutter your space, but if you don't declutter the mindset that got you to that point in the first place, then you're going to be right back where you started. This is episode 1 of 23 lessons I learned decluttering my life at 23. I grew up around clutter, and that is because my dad passed away when I was younger, so I kept a lot of things. And I had a solo parent who couldn't take care of the house while taking care of three kids. And because of that, I kind of had this mindset that every time that I cleaned, I knew it was going to get dirty again, so I wouldn't even bother. And honestly, it was not a fun cycle to go through. There was a lot of shame, there was a lot of guilt involved, and that's something I encourage people to not do, especially if you're starting to tell yourself that you can't do it or you make up some excuse, just position yourself in a position that oftentimes the hardest thing to do is start because we build it up to be a much bigger task in our brain than it actually is. So if you're looking at your space right now and you're like, this is insanely overwhelming. I don't think I can do this. I don't know what to start. Start with telling yourself that you can do this and pick one small thing to tackle. Decluttering is a mindset. It takes practice to start letting go of things. But the only way that you're going to get better is to build up that muscle. And if you want to learn some ways to do that, then you can follow, share this with a friend and come back for lesson two.
