If everything you keep in your space is sentimental, then nothing actually is. This is episode 2 of 23 lessons I learned decluttering my life at 23. And this is typically the conversation I have with people when they ask me what the heck to do with sentimental items. And you might not like this one, because it might be a harsh truth you need to hear first. But when I first started decluttering, my experience, I started using the whole sentimental thing as an excuse to keep different things. At the dress I wore at my brother's wedding, but it doesn't picture me anymore. The picture frame I had to have at the store, but have never actually used. And I justified that I kept it because it was sentimental to me. But that started to happen with everything in life. Things started to change when I started viewing sentimental items as something that I would like to have out in my space so I could see them every day and remember that memory. But when everything you have is that quote-unquote sentimental to you, then how are you justifying actually have deep as you're mindset. That was the mindset shift that really made an impact for me. Because I started being really selective with the items that I wanted to keep in my life. And putting sentimental items on display so that they could be conversation starters when I had people over in my space. So next time, decluttering across deemed you ask, is this really that sentimental to you? Or is that just an excuse for me to keep it? But if you want to hear more truths, then I'm going to encourage you to follow and stick around so that you can come back for episode 3.
