Here are my top 10 favorite two player board games of all time.

My fifth favorite game of all time is Lord of the Rings: Duel for Middle-earth. When I first played this game, I didn't have high hopes because I thought 7 Wonders Duel was neat. It was okay. Wow did this game prove me wrong.
And Duel for Middle-earth, you'll be drafting cards from a pyramid similar to 7. You use these cards for area control, to move on the track on Mount Doom or gain resources. I really enjoy the area control part of the game so so much.
And No. 4, The King is Dead. The King is Dead is technically not a two player only game, but it plays best at two players. In this game, The King is Dead, the name. So you have three factions: Scots, Welsh, and the Brits fighting over it. Everyone has eight identical cards to use as their eight actions. You will move each faction around these little cubes on the board as the leader to influence certain parts of the region. Even better, you can cause an invasion by the French. And I love doing this because
No. 3, Santorini. Santorini looks like a kids game, but yeah, it's not. It reminds me of checkers and chess. You'll be moving your builders around and up building the third level of the tower of Santorini. It's easier send them down. Can cap off the buildings. Also include god powers, builder special abilities and makes the game even more interesting.

Agent Avenue. I talk a lot about this game, but for good reason. I really enjoy bluffing and sabotage in board games, and Agent Avenue encompasses both of those so well.
On your turn, you'll be putting down cards face up and face down. Your opponent chooses, get the other. These cards tell spaces to move around the small board. This is a cat and mouse type game where each is trying to catch the other.
Oh, and the expansion that just came out makes the game a bit more difficult and more fun.
