You purchase the patent or license the enforcement rights for a small upfront payment plus a percentage of whatever you recover. Which companies are currently using technology covered by those patent claims? Without a licensing agreement. This'll get their attention. A licensing letter. A few hundred thousand dollars to a company generating hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue. Wait, that's IT?! The license fee is a rounding error. Left: Payday. Finally! Most companies pay immediately. Right: Pay up. Litigation costs more than the license.
