Top eight pitfalls to avoid when you're doing your budget. This is the top pitfalls when budgeting straight out of the Ask Ramsey tool. Make sure you give every dollar a job. Yeah, also known as zero based budgeting. Fully support of that. Yep. So no money left over. Now money left over your checking account. You need to leave a little slush in there, but your budget should go to zero every month. The second one is then you guess at it. You do a budget and you don't follow it. Oh, I kind of thought, I know you got to go. This is how much we have and we're not buying more groceries than this. What I suggest to my clients is review your budget at least weekly. And the way that I like to do it, I sit down with my wife, we look at it on Sunday night. Look at how much we spent the past week and how we need to pace ourselves for the following week. So it takes about 5 to 10 minutes for us to both review. We use an app called Solvit Air. It's a budgeting app that we use. Are there times where I look at it for bigger purchases? Absolutely. But weekly is generally that I will recommend. Then the other one is we ignore the four walls. We don't take care of the important stuff first. The important stuff is groceries and housing and utilities and transportation. So this is fairly common, especially if you're new to budgeting. It is normal and fairly typical that are new to go over their budget. So if they set $1,000 in their grocery budget, but they accidentally end up spending 1200 instead of 1000, that's normal. I see that all the time, but take it as a feedback, right? Why did we spend $200 extra? Where could we have cut? What should we have done? And what I noticed over several periods of time, they will become better and better sticking to their budget. So don't expect perfection right at the gate. And that's in fact, probably the wrong mindset to have when it comes to starting and setting up your budget.
