HERE ARE THE BUSINESSES
PEOPLE CAN'T STOP
GOOGLEING AND
NOBODY'S OPENING
The best
business idea
is the one
nobody has
opened yet.
OnDeck used Google search volume data to
find the gap between what people are
searching for and how many businesses
actually exist to serve them. The results are
more surprising than most "start a business"
lists.
Entrepreneur
Car rental
services are
the key
example.
There are 24,414 car rental companies in the
U.S. — and Americans run 823,000 Google
searches for "car rental" every single month.
That ratio of demand to supply puts it at the top
of OnDeck's list. The opportunity isn't always in
the flashiest category. Sometimes it's in the one
everyone needs and nobody's opened locally.
Entrepreneur
Tailors, dog
cafés, kebab
shops and
pubs are in
the top five.
The pattern across the top five: people are
actively looking for these businesses in their
area and not finding enough of them. That's the
definition of a market gap, and it's hiding in
plain sight in Google's search data.

Average
entrepreneurs
makes more
than average
employees.
The average entrepreneur earns roughly
$77,000 — and gets to be their own boss while
doing it. 62% of Americans say they'd rather
work for themselves. Most of them just haven't
found the right idea yet.

Look for the
gap between
what people
search for and
what exists.
You don't need a revolutionary idea to start a
business. You need to find where the search
volume is high and the supply is low, then open
the thing your town is already looking for.
