I’ll be totally honest, I’m still on cloud nine after the whirlwind of last week - finally graduating to become Dr. Adams, the UK’s first deafblind doctor. It’s still something I’m personally struggling to comprehend and it’s wild how more than a decade of the craziest happenings can come down to just one small but momentous moment, coming and going in a heartbeat; did that really just happen, and did I really just do that? I’ve already moved house and county, and started at my new hospital this week - for an extended shadowing period which is allowing me to better orientate myself around the new workplace before my fellow fy1 doctors join and the real work starts! And although incredibly busy, I have loved every moment, because this is my doctor dream - finally coming true. This next part of the journey will no doubt be very overwhelming - it’s a steep learning curve for ALL new and incoming doctors. But everyone has been so welcoming, the beach is just down the road, (and yes I have bought myself a paddleboard for after-work water wind-downs, and taken note of my favourite local cafes). So, I’m a very happy doctor. I wanted to find the time and space to come on here with a big thank you, for everyone’s kind words and comments to my latest graduation news. I have had SO many messages that it’d be impossible to get round and respond to every single one. But I’ve read them all and I wanted to say how grateful I am for them all, and for all of you who have chosen to join me on this mad journey! I’m looking forward to returning with some more mythbusting content soon, continuing the advocacy and education on what CAN be done with disabilities. I know that so many of you will no doubt have more questions and curiosities on how it’s done, and I welcome these. For now though, I’m finding my feet, soaking up the sun, and forever brushing off the south coast sand in between the scrub changes 😂 Back soon x #fyp #doctor #medicine #disability #update
