Everyone should have a barrier serum in their routine. They can be used whenever your skin shows signs of sensitivity or redness. But I think they are best used daily as a preventative measure, to prevent damage cold weather or prevent irritation from actives. I'm a dermal therapist, I review skincare for a living and I have very dry skin and these are my top 5 barrier serums to help your skin get through the cold dry winter first. I have the Bioderma Sensibio Defensive Serum. Bioderma make excellent products for sensitive skin and this is one of them. I repurchased this serum many many times over the years. Whenever my skin starts getting red on the cheeks, just with this serum that redness comes down so fast and overnight my skin is pretty much good as new. Next is the Aveeno Triple Oat Serum. Oat extract is a really powerful ingredient for soothing, calming redness. I love the texture of this serum. I love how it feels on the skin. I love the pump applicator and I really love the price point of this one as well. This one is a newer addition to this lineup here. This is the Ordinary Rice Lipid and Ectoin Micro Emulsion. It's been marketed and designed to basically be a moisturizer, but because of the ingredients in here, we've got the rice, we've got the ectoin. I really really love ectoin 1 for the skin barrier. You can layer it underneath the moisturizer and it feels really good and it feels really really soothing. Another great one you can pick up at the chemist is the TBH Rebound Serum. The ingredient list is really packed with a lot of different soothers and hydrators like your panthenol, oat extract, shea extract. This one I like because the texture is lightweight, you can use it year round and it's also gonna work and be comfortable for all skin types. Final one is the Naturium Barrier Bounce Serum. This is like a bi-phase oil and water thing that you kind of gotta mix up. This one is great if you've got really dry skin. If you like something that you can feel on the skin, gives you that glow, has a bit of that like oily emollient feeling to it. If you want something lightweight that's gonna evaporate immediately and you don't feel on the skin whatsoever, this is not the product for you. Most lightweight options are gonna be these two, the Aveeno and the TBH Rebound. It's still lightweight but just a little milkier and nicer on the skin. That's where these two would come in. The final boss level dryness is the Naturium one. So that's my barrier serum round up. If you haven't met before, I'm Rosie, a dermal therapist, skincare nerd. If you have any questions at all about any of these or anything else, let me know in the comments and I'll get back to you.
