Andy Burnham is NOT Labour...

Andy Burnham is not Labour. Andy Burnham is not Labour. Did you know he is the first ever prime minister to be a member of the Labour and Co-operative Party. Burnham identifies as a socialist associated with Labour's "soft left" faction, and his political ideology has been called "Manchesterism". The Co-operative Party is an independent political party. It has its own registration with the Electoral Commission, but they have a pact with the Labour Party and have done for many, many years. There are about 40, 45 MPs that have been elected to Parliament in the current Parliament who are Labour and Co-operative Party members. And Andy Burnham is one of them. The cooperatives, very, very fascinating and actually quite anti-capitalist. I did a video on them for my Britain's Radical History: The Rochdale Pioneers series way back when. But actually, they started in Rochdale, which isn't that far from Makerfield from where Andy Burnham, you know, got elected. Ultimately, the co-operative movement says a lot about the kinds of ideologies that he espouses. This whole idea of Manchesterism, the strong state is aligned to cooperative cooperatives, but of course, cooperatives as a sort of entity, they have entered into the capitalist system. We have the coop, and the actual shop and the bank and all that. We've got cooperative universities. And actually, they sit in a weird corporations, not quite corporations, not quite charities, not quite companies. So they kind of get lost in actually economically, at least, quite progressive. So whether he'll lean into this or not, I don't know. Do. But I think from an economic perspective, it says a lot about why he wants to renationalise things, you know, bring things back into public actually profits, things into ownership model, which is what cooperatives are all about. Yeah, our cooperative prime minister.
