Vandalizing my apartment in exchange for rent! vandalizing my apartment building in exchange for rent Just kidding Part 1 Painting a mural on my apartment before moving out this is part one of painting a mural on my apartment before moving out I moved in here nearly four years ago and the original mural literally fell off during a huge storm we tried to put some pieces together for our landlord to keep because the building was passed down to her after her dad passed away and I knew the mural meant a lot to her it was also really well known in the neighborhood I found this piece of a butterfly wing and it's been in my apartment ever since as a little momento over the past four years this apartment has been such a great home it's been my art studio and it's the place where I built my business and grew into becoming a full time artist this apartment has also held me through some of the hardest moments of my life and it's now become a space where I'm trying to find my way back to myself my style has grown since living here over the past four years I've always specialized in custom pet portraits and my landlord has always mentioned she's wanted me to paint her dogs on the side of the building we just never knew when to actually do it I don't know exactly when I'll be moving but I do know that my time here is ~starting~ to come to an end so in a way painting this mural feels like both a thank you to honor the apartment building and the memories here but also say goodbye it's also my chance to leave a little piece of myself on the place that helped shape me into the person I am today and hopefully bring a little more joy back into the neighborhood this apartment has been the backdrop of my story and now it gets to become part of my art
